37 Weeks Pregnant: Symptoms and What to Expect
June 26, 2023Congratulations, you're in the final stretch of your pregnancy! At 37 weeks, you are considered full term and your baby could arrive any day now. Here are some common symptoms you may experience during this week and what to expect.
-
Braxton Hicks Contractions: As your body prepares for labor, you may experience Braxton Hicks contractions, which are mild, irregular contractions that do not lead to labor. These contractions may feel like a tightening or hardening of your uterus and can occur more frequently as you get closer to your due date.
-
Increased Discomfort: At this stage of pregnancy, you may feel more discomfort in your pelvis and lower back due to the weight of your growing baby. You may also experience increased pressure on your bladder and frequent urination.
-
Fatigue: As your due date approaches, you may feel more tired than usual. This is due to the physical demands of pregnancy as well as the anticipation and anxiety surrounding your upcoming delivery.
-
Nesting Instinct: Many women experience a surge of energy and the urge to prepare their home for the baby's arrival. This is known as the nesting instinct and is a normal part of the late stages of pregnancy.
-
Increased Vaginal Discharge: As your body prepares for labor, you may notice an increase in vaginal discharge. This discharge may be thicker and have a pink or brown tint, which is a sign that your cervix is starting to thin and dilate.
-
Swelling: You may experience swelling in your feet, ankles, and hands due to the increased fluid in your body. This is normal, but if you notice sudden or severe swelling, contact your healthcare provider.
-
Heartburn and Indigestion: As your baby grows, it may put pressure on your stomach and cause heartburn and indigestion. Eating smaller meals throughout the day and avoiding spicy and acidic foods can help alleviate these symptoms.
-
Emotions: It's common to feel a range of emotions as you approach your due date, including excitement, anxiety, and fear. Make sure to take care of yourself and talk to your partner or healthcare provider about any concerns you may have.
As you near the end of your pregnancy journey, make sure to rest as much as possible and take care of yourself both physically and emotionally. Your baby will be here soon, and all of your hard work and preparation will be worth it when you hold your little one in your arms for the first time.
